MARY TATARO

Solace

Mary’s totemic figures signify peace and place. Solace is a vessel for living plants that personifies the peace that we find in nature during difficult times. Mary’s work blends found elements with contemporary construction to create a space for reflection and renewal.

Mary Tartaro exhibits nationally and has organized many art projects including SCRAP (Santa Cruz), The Lost Foundry at Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, VA), Thompson Gallery at SJSU (San Jose, CA), and served as an Arts Commissioner for Santa Cruz City Arts. Predominantly working in welded metals and found objects, her sculptures are talismans of a forgotten religion that she is remembering as they come to life (as she builds). Most of her forms are figurative and suggest the vessel in some capacity. Mary is one of the many artists who lost her studio and all of her inventory during the 2020 CZU fires.
