INSTALLATION/SCULPTURE
Maha is a 3–dimensional artist raised in the East Bay and started her art education at the local Peralta Community Colleges. She spent most of her studio time at Laney Community College from 2000-2008 before transferring to UC Santa Cruz 2008. Maha began her art practice as a functional ceramic artist and soon realized her artistic tendencies moved toward nonfunctional sculpture. She continued to work with clay and began experimenting with common household materials such as paper mache, plaster, bond-o. etc.
Eco-art is also a great interest of Maha’s; her interests placed her in a collaborative exhibition where artists displayed two interactive sculptures dedicated to environmental awareness. At Laney College, Maha had two very influential professors pushing her in both conceptual ideas and new mediums. In pursuit of continuing her academic practice in studio art, Maha chose to relocate to Santa Cruz to experiment and master her art in heavy metals and bronze sculpture at the UCSC campus.
